Do Blackholes exist on Earth?

January 23, 2012 4:07 am 3 comments

Blackholes exist right here on earth.

What is a Blackhole?:
Light goes in and is never reflected back to the source or sender.
It is believed that this happens because Blackholes have a high amount of gravity and hence pull in anything that is thrown towards them. At least, so says the Theory of General Relativity.

Then there is another theory called Quantum Mechanics that says Black holes are black bodies(no kidding) hence they must emit heat radiation like any black body should do.

However, thankfully it says that since the temperature is inversely proportional to its mass (and Blackholes are Massive!) so the radiation is very small and hence very hard to observe.

Great! so we will never find out the truth unless we stick our head into a blackhole and lose it forever.

What is the Blackhole doing on earth?:

Let this sink in:

An email is not just a piece of information it is also a bundle of emotional energy.

People send information out!
You tweet!
You text!
You email!
You just talk!
We take pride in how much content we create!
and mostly it is just us reading what we write.
Like the emails you send out to Blackholes.

Jog your memory now!:
Have you ever sent 1, 2, 3 emails to someone or left 1, 2, 3 voicemails for someone and never heard back?
Have you ever pondered on the questions below:
1. Did they open it? (yes you are smart you use read receipts, guess they are smarter they can open without triggering the receipt)
2. Did they read it?
3. Did they ignore it or will they ever get back?
4. What is the best time to send 1 more email on this topic?
5. This is my third email, they are surely ignoring me or am I just poor at timing?
6. Maybe we need to call them and give a lesson on ‘How to deal with emails’
7. Am i spamming ? (maybe you are miffed easily or just can’t take a hint!).
8. Am sure they love me but are just too busy to love me back
9. They saw my email, thought of responding later, but later never happened

Conclude:
Yes, so Blackholes exist on earth.
No! I am not talking about ‘people’. For this term has been used in reference to people both in the Urban Dictionary and by Grant J. Hallstrom the author of the book Emotional Blackholes.

I am talking about Informational and Emotional Blackholes:.
a) Information Blackholes unread emails, unread tweet, unwatched videos, unheard podcasts, that suck of information it goes in and nothing comes back.
b) Similarly, Emotional Blackholes all of the above, given emails are bundles of emotion et al.

WW0W*:
Think Responsibly. Think before you Write, Talk or Act, for you may be just firing at a Blackhole!

Good post..Too bad these black holes don’t come up with event horizons, where at least some indirect observations can be made.

Btw, shouldn’t the flowchart node that says “Did they ever get back” lead to “Blackholes do not exist” if the response was Yes?..although I agree that misses the point the post is trying to make :-)

  • Partha, thanks for the comments! and good catch!

In some ways we could think of return receipts as Event Horizons, however as you pointed out hard to observe.

Good catch! The flowchart needs to be changed. The text needs to read “Will they ever get back” it seems to be a typo.

So, if you read the book (Cloud Basics – The Paradigm Shift) I had said it was really mean’t to be a Blog Post or a Series of Posts that ended up becoming a book. As, I write my first post on Big Data I can clearly see the need for a Book or maybe even a series of Books here that can help clear up the mist on Big Data. More over there is a need to clarify what […]

    Types of Private Clouds

Private Clouds are in the News. AT&T announced yesterday(Monday, 13th Feb 2012) its Virtual Private Cloud offering. It is interesting to see terminology evolve in the Cloud world. Am sure we have heard the terms Public Cloud, Private Cloud, Hybrid Cloud but maybe not Virtual Private Cloud. Telcos are big proponents of the Cloud. It is often argued that the Telcos stand to be the biggest gainers from the increased Internet Traffic and hence their desire to create new terms. […]
